2008-2009 OLN Southeast Region PLCs

Congratulations to the new OLN Learning Communities Initiative Innovations Grant recipients for the 2008-2009 academic year. Three proposals were funded this year with each receiving the full $5000 award.

The new learning communities created will focus on developing methods of assessment for critical thinking skills in a simulated hospital maternity unit, evaluating web-based writing tools for use in teacher education and other classes, and creating collaborative learning and laboratory experiences for students in Behavioral Neuroscience and Anatomy and Physiology.

These learning communities will involve not only educators and students from Ohio State University, Central Ohio Technical College, Shawnee State University, and Ohio University, Chillicothe, but also medical professionals from Southern Ohio Medical Center and middle and high school teachers from throughout Ross County.

The following learning communities were funded for 2008-2009:

Developing an Assessment Tool to Evaluate Interdisciplinary Clinical Behaviors. Facilitator: Becky Thiel, Shawnee State University

Ohio Univeristy Chillicothe Technology-Rich Creative Writing Learning Community. Facilitator: Jan Schmittauer, Ohio University Chillicothe

Beyond the Brain. Facilitator: Kim Goudy, Central Ohio Technical College.

You can learn more about these new learning communities and all Southeast Ohio professional learning communities funded in the past by viewing the Community Profiles.
