2008 Learning Institute

The 2008 OLN Southeast Regional Learning Institute was held on Saturday, February 23 at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. This event provided OLN funded professional learning communities with an opportunity to share their activities, accomplishments, and achievements with others throughout the region. Each learning community presented its information as well as shared in discussions about completing the Portraits of Practice and the upcoming statewide learning expo in May.

This year's institute featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Gary Brown, Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology at Washington State University. Dr. Brown has been a National Learning Communities fellow as well as a lead facilitator of the EDUCAUSE New Academy project and part of the international Transformative Assessment Project. 2007 Fall Kickoff Event

On Oct. 5 and 6, the Southeast Regional Center held a Fall Kickoff Event for all OLN funded learning communities in the region. Activities included short presentations from each learning community about their plans for the upcoming year, updates and information from OLN, as well as info about the various grant requirements for the year.

This year's kickoff included include two presentations by Dr. Meggin McIntosh, who is widely recognized as an expert on productivity, organization, and time management. On Friday night, she presented an hour of learning how to "Bungle the Burglars Who Steal Your Time, Attention, Energy, and (Really) Your Life: For Those Who Want to Take a Stand Against this Crime!" Then, on Saturday morning, she facilitated the workshop:"I Just Want to Be Whelmed: Maintaining a Vibrant Work Life."

2007 Southeast Learning Institute

On April 13, the OLN Southeast Regional Center at Shawnee State University hosted the OLN Southeast Regional Learning Institute, "It Takes a Community." The institute featured a keynote speaker, updates from all PLC's on their progress, and a time for discussion and other activities. Click here for more information.

2006 Fall Kick-off Event

The Fall Kick-off event on October 26 was attended by members from each of the professional learning communities funded through mini-grants. The event focused on how learning communities can maintain balance between the various activities and requirements while having fun, getting to know each other, and developing a sense of community.
