Responsibilities
of Regional Centers
Center Activities include:
- Offer a small grants program for learning communities at
OLN member institutions that include a strong technology
in learning component.
- Host two regional events annually: a Fall
Kickoff for new and experienced learning communities and
a mid-winter Learning Institute. Both events are open to
all learning communities in the region.
- Make contact with at least three institutions
that have not yet adopted learning communities, invite
them to participate and connect them to mentoring learning
communities.
- Connect learning communities to others in the region to
meet success through resource sharing, building on shared
knowledge, reducing redundancies and increasing student academic
success.
- Provide a website with events, ideas, resources, news,
and learning community data.
- Serve as ambassadors of the benefits
of learning communities and strengthen Ohio's infrastructure
of support for learning community efforts.
- Partner with OLN to secure additional funding for learning
communities in Ohio.
- Serve as members of the OLN's
Learning Community Initiative Advisory Committee.
Goals of the Regional Centers
-
Increase awareness of Ohio's
many learning communities and OLN-funded learning communities.
Share more broadly the benefits of learning communities
as a strategy for institutional enhancement, professional
revitalization, and the exploration of emerging pedagogies
for learning with technologies.
-
Build upon Ohio's rich history
of learning community successes. Strengthen current
networks and build new networks of learning communities
that span professional roles, disciplines, departments,
and institutions. Encourage and reward the public exchange
of knowledge.
-
Create metrics, tools, and support for the
continuous assessment of learning community effectiveness.
Determine how learning communities improve professional
practice and increase student success.
- Support the development of pedagogically
robust, technologically enhanced collegiate programs, courses,
modules, and learning objects. Facilitate the broad public
dissemination of resulting resources. This may include
sharing resources in OLN's
OhioLearns! catalog, the OLN website, the E-Learning Athenaeum
of Ohio (ELA), and OhioLINK's Digital Resource Commons
(DRC).
