Abstract:

The project aims to devise a collaborative instructional experience to enhance the learning of students from both Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) and The Ohio State University-Newark (OSU-N).

  • As they learn about neuroanatomy, Behavioral Neuroscience students from OSU-N will have the opportunity to view/examine brain specimens.
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology students from COTC will have the opportunity to learn how structural abnormalities can be linked to certain psychological and neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Students will develop their e-learning abilities of students through the use of on-line discussion boards and podcasts.
Goals:

We intend to establish the following new learning goals for the Behavioral Neuroscience students:

  • Students will learn to identify specific neuroanatomical structures using brain specimens.
  • Students will be able to correlate information learned in the lab to information presented in their textbook.
  • Students will develop a deeper awareness of brain-behavior relationships.
  • Students will enhance their technological and writing skills through the use of online discussion boards and podcasts.

We intend to establish the following new learning goals for the Anatomy and Physiology students:

  • Students will develop an understanding of how neuroanatomical structure relates to function.
  • Students will increase their understanding of how neurodevelopmental disorders can be influenced by neuroanatomical abnormalities
  • Students will develop a deeper awareness of brain-behavior relationships

Students will enhance their technological and writing skills through the use of online discussion boards and podcasts.

Resources Created: Shared Statewide

Community members will share what they have learned through departmental meetings and through the on-campus newsletter.  Beyond campus, we will share our project with others through Learning Communities Initiative conferences, Ohio Learning Network, etc. We plan for this community to grow and expand beyond the original community members.  Both COTC and OSU-N are committed to the enhancement of student learning and to the continuous development the training of the learning community members.
